Same sex marriage is legal in Iowa!

So we're got Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, and Iowa. I think it's great that Iowa did this - MA, CT, and VT are all known, at least regionally, for being fairly left-leaning (even if where I live is a conservative pocket, Boston certainly isn't). Iowa legalising same-sex marriage means that states nominally upholding "traditional" values can recognise that same-sex couples are equal. (California, are you paying attention?)

Only Massachusetts, Connecticut and now Iowa. Vermont has a civil union, but there is new legislation for same sex marriages, making it the first state to have laws allowing them without judicial mandate.

This is amazing though, to have that kind of precedent in a conservative state is unprecedented.

This is wonderful! The brother of a family friend is in the Iowa state legislature, and he's turning cartwheels over the news.

Yay! I'd love for my state to pay attention. I think, based on the poll numbers, we can do it. I just think we need to do so much more than spending millions of dollars on television commercials. And true, lots of people did very proactive things, but there were whole areas that were... not avoided, necessarily. Just not reached. I think it would have made a difference.

It took me forever to realize how conservative of a pocket we lived in, but it's so conservative. But all the Ohioans I met were basically like oh you're from gay pot smoking hippie land? So yeah, left leaning.
