Life Needs More Pie

Great Pumpkin Pumpkin Pie
Vegetable Shortening Crust

4 cups flour
1 3/4 cups shortening (palm oil)
1 egg, beaten
1 dash vinegar
1 dash vanilla
1 dash salt
~1 cup water

Mix flour and shortening as you would with butter, until a meal consistency is reached. Add the egg, vinegar, vanilla, and salt. Mix. Slowly add water by the teaspoon until it holds together loosely when pressed. This is enough for a two crust pie, two bottom crusts, or one bottom crust and some tarts.

Pumpkin Pie Filling

1 egg beaten
1/4 teaspoon arrowroot
pinch of orange rind or dash of orange juice
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1 tablespoon canola oil
1/2 cup blackstrap molasses
3/4 cup milk
1/2 cup sugar

Mix well. Pout into pie crust. Bake at 450 F for 15 minutes and then 350 F for about an hour (until set in the middle).

I've actually come up with a new challenge for myself. I've decided I need to figure out what kind of pie would be Dean's favorite and try to come up with a delicious recipe for that. (Cherry? Apple? Not apple after Scarecrow, right?)

Honestly, I think he's more of a cherry pie kinda guy. (I totally didn't mean that to rhyme.)

Well, he could like a blackberry-blueberry pie. Or strawberry-rhubarb. Or pecan. Or peach.

Or he could prefer a savory pie - getting dinner and pie in one easy dish! (Chicken pie? Steak pie? Pork pie?)

It's kinda funny you mention strawberry-rhubarb. There are a few RP twitters that are playing as Dean, and one of them has an AIM for Dean, and just for shits and giggles, I asked them that, and he said it was between strawberry-rhubarb or french silk. LOL

That would be like, Dean's best night ever.

For some reason, I'm now picturing Dean loving peach pie best. And I don't know why since I've never met anyone else who makes peach pie. (I will just put anything in a pie. Peach pie is A+. Apple-pear pie is as well.)

If Sam and Dean ever rescued me from a supernatural beastie, I'd make them a meat pie and a sweet pie. I totally would. And then I'd have to give Sam a salad.
