I think this is a good thing because it secures his presence in future eps so he can't run off and get another job and not be available to be Castiel anymore...and I couldn't handle a non-Misha Castiel. I'd rather have him present and accounted for and checked-in on throughout the seasons to fulfill that contract rather than leaving it up to chance that he can come up to Vancouver as they need him.
