Earlier this week I was put in charge of grocery shopping and picked up a bag of cranberries and box of orange juice with the honest intentions of making cranberry-orange sugar cookies. Well, that evening, my father (who thinks berries are "squishy") caught sight of the cranberries and his eyes lit up. "You're making scones?" he asked hopefully. "Cookies," I replied. And then my mother informed me that she's not consuming any sugar. I wheedled with her and got her to accept a sprinkling of cinnamon-brown sugar on top of the cookies, but this is the result of my father wanting breakfast and me wanting dessert from one bag of cranberries. (Today I bought us a new blender - one that will actually blend - and used that as a quick way to chop the rather large amount of fruit in these recipes.)

Cranberry Orange Bread
3 c cranberries, diced
2.5 c flour
1 tsp b soda
1 tsp b powder
1 dash salt
¼ c molasses
2 tbsp gave nectar
1 c orange juice
1 egg
½ c oil
Mix flour, soda, powder, salt, and sweetener. Add oil.
Combine orange juice and beaten egg. Mix together
Fold in berries.
Bake 350 F for one hour.
Cranberry-Apple Drop Cookies
1.5 c cranberries
1 apple
2 eggs beaten
½ c oil
½ c honey
2 dashed allspice
¼ tsp ginger
2 2/3 c flour
1 ts soda
1 ts baking powder
dash salt
½ c tea
Grate in blender.
Mix eggs, oil, honey, and spices. Fold in fruit.
Mix flour, soda, baking powder and salt.
Mix together gradually, with tea.
Drop by the spoonful onto greased cookie sheets.
Sprinkle with cinnamon brown sugar
350 F, 15 - 20 min or until cooked
And then, because it is finally the right month to start making eggnog:
Eggnog
3 eggs beaten
3 tbs brown sugar
1/8 tsp ginger
¼ tsp cinnamon
½ tsp nutmeg
4.5 c milk
1 tsp corn starch
Beat together eggs, sugar, and spices. Add 2.5 cups milk. Whisk corn starch in water and add. Cook over medium-low heat until mixture coats back of spoon. Let cool. Add rest of milk. Add rum to taste.

... And I just realised that it's now almost 10:30 and I haven't eaten anything except a cookie and a piece of cheese since noon.
