I enjoyed reading this. I found this manifestation of John's stubbornness and protective nature interesting. (I have to having a bad moment there when 10 years was being talked of and wondering if John had made a deal with a crossroad's demon.) I liked how Sam and Dean still exist as a unit unto themselves: Sam knows what's going on with Dean, even when John doesn't; Sam gives Dean the amulet, even if he's a touch patronizing about it, because he gets Dean's psyche; Sam starts hunting to protect Dean just as Dean sought and seeks to protect Sam.
